In the last year, the health insurance reform debate has dominated the media airwaves. With so much debate taking place, it has recently been revealed that health insurance companies have been quietly raising their rates. A recent report released by Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, revealed that insurers in at least 6 states have been pushing to “increase health insurance rates by as much as 56%.” Many experts believe this increase is going to spread to most states across the country. As well, WellPoint’s Anthem Blue Cross in California’s proposed “rate increases of as much as 39 percent” has got a lot of people very worried about how they are going to afford their health plans, especially with so much confusion about the current health insurance reform bill and what it will mean to people if it is signed into law, or if it fails to pass the legislative process.
